In 1998, Joest Racing again receives works support from Porsche. While the factory enters two GT1 cars and celebrates overall victory, Joest Racing looks after two open top prototypes. This time however, “Lucky Seven” does not come up trumps. Joest Racing enters a prototype for Porsche at the inaugural “Petit Le Mans” in Road Atlanta and finish the race in second place. At the unveiling of the new Audi R8 in Berlin at the end of 1998, Joest Racing is presented as new Audi works team.
