Strong new opponents: Audi Sport Team Joest face up to Toyota in 2012. The Japanese are quick out of the box with their hybrid gasoline prototype – also at Le Mans. Audi Sport Team Joest maintains, however, the upper hand. Both victory in the French endurance classic and the World Championship title for sport prototypes, which reappears for the first time since 1992, goes to Audi and the Odenwald based race team. At Le Mans, Joest Racing writes motorsport history together with Audi by claiming its 13th win in the Sarthe. The Audi R18 e-tron quattro is the first hybrid sportscar to win the world’s most important endurance race. At the wheel are last year’s winners and future World Champions: Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer. Second, third and fifth also go to Audi and Joest Racing.
