The team from Wald-Michelbach in Germany has previously won the classic endurance race a total of ten times. The induction dinner took place on the eve of the 2018 edition of the 12-hour race, wherein Joest Racing competed as Mazda Team Joest with its two Mazda RT24-P cars.
The team’s no. 55 entry led the race for 58 laps and was in contention to win up until the final pit stop, when a technical problem ended the team’s bid for victory. In the end, the cars finished sixth (no. 55) and eighth (no. 77). Oliver Jarvis, driving the sister no. 77 entry, set the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1m 49.002s, a new track record for IMSA’s prototype class.
